Day 9, Thursday, July 19th

Did not get to post this until Friday, July 20th, afternoon on account of my laptop blew its LCD screen yesterday morning before we left Dubuque. Call to Dell identified the problem and they ordered a new screen FedEx'd to our hotel here in Duluth. Good thing we are here for two nights. Paul, the Dell man, came about 11 am and replaced the screen so we're good to go. Thank you sweet baby Jesus, amen.

So Thursday we rode from Dubuque to Duluth along Wisconsin highway 35 the entire way - 432.6 miles (total trip + 2,533) of totally awesome scenery most of the time parallelling the mighty Mississippi. It is very wide and wild looking up here. And we happened on navigation lock no. 8 at Genoa, Wisconsin, just as a tug was moving its barges through. Stayed over half hour but it was well worth the stop - even the girls agreed!

John Maki, check out the BBQ sign - yes they do have pork bbq up here. But we did not have that to eat as I decided to go bird hunting. As we were rounding a corner doing about 60 there was a pheasant on the left side of the road. It started walking toward the right and then it took off just as I reached the same spot where it was - bam. Feathers flew. After stopping to survey the damage we determined the only damage was to the pheasant - it was dead. So pheasant under glass for dinner for us!
