Today we deviated from the Posse schedule to do our own thing and get away from the oppressive heat hopefully. We rode from Dickinson, ND, to Red Lodge, MT, almost 400 miles and all but 60 or so on interstate. It was still very, very hot but at least not over 100 degrees.
We stopped at the Harley dealer in Billings, Beartooth Harley, to get our passports stamped. Here is a photo of the stuffed grizzly bear in the store. How'd you like to meet this dude in the woods some night? Not good for sure.
Red Lodge is a cool little ski resort town and our motel, Comfort Inn, had some woodcarving statues of bears. We went downtown to check out some of the shops and happened in to the Bridge Creek Backcountry Kitchen & Wine Bar where we ordered some, um, liquid refreshment. Got to talking to the proprietor, Peter Christ, who of course asked where we were from. When we told him Memphis he said he'd never been there but had done a business case study in college on the world famous Peabody ducks. Small world. Anyway wound up having a wonderful dinner there (Louis & Pat stayed at the motel and were going to the Sports Bar across the highway but when they discovered it did not serve food they had to come downtown also). Photo is of Peter and us behind the bar.
Check out the first photo of the dinosaur. That was my road kill for the day, ha ha.
