Day 14, Tuesday, July 24th

We left Red Lodge about 8 am today and headed up the mountain on the Beartooth Highway (US 212) to cross over at Beartooth Pass and on in to Yellowstone. Only other time HQ and I have been on the mountain was on July 5, 1983, and the temp was in the low 30's and it was snowing to beat the band up top. Today was MUCH better, sunny and temp in mid 60's. Needless to say the ride was wonderful and the scenery gorgeous.

Had a little bite of lunch in Cooke City, MT, and then headed into the park

Then we rode about 60 miles through Yellowstone entering at the Silver Gate on the northeast side and exiting through the north gate at Gardiner, MT. Weather was great until about 10 minutes after we left then wind picked up and was ferocious and we could see dark black clouds up ahead where we were going. So about halfway between the park and Livingston, MT, (where we pick up I-90) we found a rest stop and hung out there for about 45 minutes. Sky looked much better and wind died down so we headed out only to catch up with some light rain - mostly spray from passing / oncoming vehicles.

Rode it on in to Bozeman, MT, where we had dinner at Famous Dave's BBQ where HQ and I split a full order of spare ribs. Got to say that was enough for three people and we couldn't finish it but it was really good considering we are in Montana and not Memphis, the bbq capital of the world!

Miles today were a little over 200 but we were on the road over 9 hours because of all the neat things we stopped to see and do.
