Day 8, Wednesday, July 18th

Today we rode from Fort Wayne to Dubuque, Iowa. I'll say this - toady we had an abundance of two things - wind and corn. Fought strong headwinds most all day and never saw so much corn in my life. Acre after of acre of corn growing - it was really pretty.

Two very impressive things - passed through Dixon, Illinois, and visited the boyhood home of President Ronald Reagan, my hero. And just before we crossed the Mississippi we passed through Galena, Illinois, home of President U. S. Grant. Did not stop there because it was getting late, we'd been on the road all day, and feared the ladies would have our heads.

Even though the desciption on the HOG website spoke to the rolling hills on the way to Dubuque I was not prepared for the beauty of the area. It is quite mountainous and very impressive. There is one photo of HQ and Patti on a back (real, real back road) road that was spectacular.

Our hotel is near the Greyhound Park and Casino. Really nice Hilton but what is the deal with river towns and dog tracks? Kinda like West Memphis.

Mileage today 392.
